Whether you hike lonely paths, climb Alpine trails, or trek rugged routes, hiking is the most natural way to explore the great outdoors. Fresh air; time to absorb the views of the landscape; a pace that you set all by yourself—hiking trails offer miles of freedom, and there are few more enjoyable ways to spend a day. Especially if your route is on point. And as almost anybody can go on hikes—no matter where you are—hiking is the perfect way to spend some quality time with the kids, the dog, or purely with yourself—and everyone will feel better because of it. So, whether you plan on crossing a mountain range, heading to a national park, or simply exploring more of your own backyard, tighten up your laces and get ready for your next adventure—wherever wanderlust takes you.

To make the most out of your hike—whether you’re going to be trekking on Alpine hiking paths or just strolling through the woods—remember to pack plenty of water and bring some snacks, especially if you’re completing a hike with the kids. As a general rule of thumb, you will normally need to drink around 32 ounces (1 liter) of water every two hours when on hikes, so bring plenty of fluids for hydration and remember to drink frequently. Good shoes are also essential, but don’t think you absolutely need top-quality boots. For most hikes, especially in the summer, a quality pair of sneakers or trail running shoes will suffice and will allow your feet to breathe more than any pair of waterproof hiking boots. If you’re going to be trekking a mountainous hiking trail, however, you should consider wearing something that’ll offer a little more support while guaranteeing to keep your feet dry.
